IDL and Work for Me
April 25th, 2007
It seems that and X library and the mesa libraries have changed their interfaces (not a huge deal), and this has broken a few applications who were using the old interface. One of those applications is IDL which we use extensively in our classroom of dual-boot machines. I was hoping (no offense intended) that this problem was specific to Ubuntu, but it seems it reaches all distributions with the new interfaces.
The problem shows up as a segmentation fault while running visual items in IDL. Specifically while running the following command: tvscl, findgen(100,100).
The temporary solution and talk for the long term solution are found on the IDL website.
